Driver jailed for six years after killing student, 18 11 Grudzień 2007
A POLISH joiner has been jailed for
six years after he ran over a Wirral student when he was almost
two-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit.
Eluned Cleverley, of Meols, died when she was hit by a stationary car which had been shunted by a van driven by Lucasz Sonta.
The
18-year-old A-level student had been to a party in Wallasey and was
walking to a friend's house in Seabank Road to call a taxi when she was
struckby a Ford Puma, which had been parked and was hit by the Mercedes
Sprinter van.
Sonta, who was
almost two-and-a-half times the legal drink-drive limit, was going out
to buy more alcohol, Liverpool crown court heard.
Ian Davies, prosecuting, told the court the collision took place during the early hours of August 5.
Miss Cleverley, who was about to start an art foundation course at college, died instantly when she was hit by the parked car.
Mr Davies said her friend, Tobias Eaton, who was walking ahead of her on the pavement, was also injured.
He handed statements from Miss Cleverley's parents Ann and Edward and her younger sister Carys to the judge.
He
said: "It is very clear the huge loss that has been suffered by all of
them because of the tragic circumstances of this case."
